M.G.
2021
Aluminum
4 x 10 x 13 inches
"M.G." is an abstract giraffe sculpture that pays tribute to my mother’s love for these elegant creatures. My aim was to push the boundaries of the engineering-focused 3D modeling software 'Fusion 360' and create something with a fine arts twist, which isn't what it's typically used for.
To bring this piece to life, I started by 3D modeling and printing the giraffe in PLA plastic, and then took it a step further with the aluminum casting process. What makes this project intriguing is how it bridges the gap between old-school art techniques like metal casting and modern digital methods. For instance, you can spot sharp edges and bold angles that are often tricky to achieve through traditional wax sculpting, as well as the visible PLA plastic layering marks left by the 3D printer, giving the sculpture a unique texture and character. "M.G." is all about blending these different artistic eras to tell a story of art evolving in the digital age.
