Steel, Copper, Bronze, Wood, Leather, and Found Reindeer Antlers
66 x 49 x 188 cm | 26 x 19 x 74 inches
Inspired by the elaborate and unconventional forms of Kawari-Kabuto (exotic samurai helmets) this piece plays with historical references while pushing them into a space of personal narrative and identity. Kabuto unites function and symbolism, where materials and process become part of the story. The construction is layered and deliberate, each element reinforcing the tension between tradition and reinvention. The result is a multicultural sculptural artifact—a relic from a time that never was.
Steel and copper forge a sense of permanence, while leather and wood introduce an organic contrast. The found reindeer antlers, gifted to me on a snowy journey within the mountains of Ammarnäs, in Northern Sweden, carry their own quiet weight as a testament as more than just an element of construction, but as a symbol of how my journey as an artist lead me to unexpected places, shaping not only what I create but who I become.
Kabuto carries the weight of history, merging Japanese craftsmanship with Brazilian iconography. It exists within a space of tension, where past and present confront each other. It is not about recreating the past but about reflecting upon personal heritage and confronting what must be preserved and carried forward.
