Incubo
2020
Steel
18 x 42 x 12 inches
Incubo is a piece inspired by my personal experiences with sleep paralysis episodes.
For me, sleep has always been this fascinating window into our inner selves, a place where our subconscious takes the stage. I see it as a mirror reflecting our psychological well-being and overall mental health. With this in mind, I created a male torso entirely composed of contorted pieces of metal sheet, welded together in a distorted pose to convey a sense of inner suffering and discomfort, symbolizing the complexities of a troubled mind.
This artwork doesn't hold back; it's sharp, intense, and even a bit brutal, which might seem off-putting at first glance. But after careful observation, one can see it has a certain "delicate vulnerability" hidden within its form. It's my way of expressing that when we shed light on the darkest and most serious aspects of life, we often reveal the profoundly disturbed elements that lie beneath the surface.
